Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center Managing and Artistic Director, is a musician, composer and bandleader, an educator and a leading advocate of American culture. He has created and performed an expansive range of music from quartets to big bands, chamber music ensembles to symphony orchestras and tap dance to ballet, expanding the vocabulary for jazz and classical music with a vital body of work that places him among the world’s finest musicians and composers.
Igor Butman is a saxophone virtuoso, bandleader, composer, producer and internationally acclaimed Ambassador of Russian music. Butman, a firm proponent of cross-border and cross genre-collaboration, has performed with a long roster of jazz greats including Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Lionel Hampton, Grover Washington Jr and Pat Metheny among others. His Moscow Jazz Orchestra and Quintet has been touring the USA every year since 2003. Bill Clinton stated that Igor Butman “may be the greatest living jazz saxophone player.”
Igor Butman and Wynton Marsalis were awarded The American-Russian Cultural Cooperation Foundation’s (ARCCF) Award and Institute of Sustainable Dialogue Award in recognition of their distinguished contributions to American-Russian cultural relations through musical collaboration.
